The Children's Healthy Pantry
Providing healthy food to at risk children.
Many children in our area come to school hungry. Although some schools provide a free or reduced price meal, lunch may be served as early as 10:30 am and it may be the last meal many children eat before returning to school the following day. For these children, our Pantries may be the only source of food for the remainder of the day.
Yummy Stuff Club, Inc (YSC) is the parent company of Children’s Healthy Pantry (CHP) . CHP provides healthy snacks and bottled water to “at risk” children in twelve (12) Title I schools in our community. A Title I school has a large percentage of the children receiving a free or reduced lunch. According to KidsCount.org, over 46,000 children are participating in the free or reduced lunch program in Manatee and Sarasota counties. With your help, we would like to provide a “pantry” in all Title I schools in our community.
The pantries not only help with hunger, but they also help with learning and behavior. It’s probably no surprise that studies show that students learn better and behave better when they are not hungry. By providing healthy snacks during the school week The Children’s Healthy Pantry serves to help Sarasota and Manatee County school children perform better in school and supports our motto, “EAT SMART TO BE SMART”.
Some Children take the snack and bottle water they receive each day from the panty and eat it as their dinner.
Cost for Each Pantry
CHP’s goal is to expand to the remaining Title 1 schools in Sarasota for the 2018 – 2019 school year.
To keep all the pantries fully stocked will cost $8,000 a month.
